So, Whats in a Bead?

So, Whats in a Bead?

Well, quite a bit it turns out. Especially when it comes to Pure Gemstones beads.

Gemstones, just like any other precious stone, are graded for their size, color, cut, clarity and luster.

What really sparked my love affair with these treasures, was the unadulterated joy of being able to own an authentic, valuable piece of jewellery - for a third of the price of stones that are cast in a precious metal.

Just think - you get to own, and wear an exclusive, full brace of semi or precious gems - sapphires, pearls, opals or aqua-marines - that won’t fade or break like glass - something of value that you can pass down as a beloved heirloom not only for yours to treasure, but to signify moments of your life, and in turn for theirs.

Did you know?

Most gems are NOT clear and glass like - be wary of those - they are almost always glass, paste or lab created and essentially you are paying for the company's marketing, but the stones have no intrinsic value and will not hold their own in years to come. In fact, some are opaque by nature, and some are vitreous - and some are lauded for their flaws!

So it really does depend on what stone you are buying, where it was mined - what your color preference is, and, of course, your budget.

The point is - just be sure to be buying from a reputable shop or trusted person (me, of course) so that you know what quality you are getting, and so that you understand what you are paying for.

Depending on their grading, and as mentioned earlier in above - there is quite a wide variety of price points - in line with a gemstones’ rarity and grading.

In my shop, I like to offer a balance - quality stones, traditionally crafted, with an appropriate price tag.

Transparency is key - excuse the pun!

Gemstone Beads

You may ask yourself, and here’s where it gets very confusing - why on earth do they drill a hole through a ‘perfect’ stone? Why not set it in gold or silver?

And then you may think - that all drilled gemstones are of substandard quality - and that’s why they are drilled. But this isn’t the case at all & the answer isn’t that simple - some of the finest gemstones are drilled - you see, Gemstone Jewellery is not something that goes in and out of fashion.

Gemstone Jewellery, made the old fashioned way - with silk knots and expertly crafted finishes - are classics that have been worn culturally to adorn for centuries past - they are heirlooms which are in fact gaining in value - with some gems becoming scarce as mining becomes too expensive or damaging to our planet.

Making them all the more rarer & indeed covetable!

In a world of plastic waste, machinery and make believe, it is very re-assuring to have choice - and to wear the real deal - to have the pleasure of wearing something that does have value - something you can pass down as a valuable heirloom to be treasured - and how wonderful to know that long after we have passed - some part of our energy still exists to be enjoyed and remembered by our loved ones.

All love

Justine
